Thomas Oie passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the St. Therese Care Center in New Hope, MN. A memorial service will be held at Golden Valley Lutheran Church, 5501 Glenwood Avenue, Golden Valley, MN on Monday, May 20, 2019, at 11 a.m. Family visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Tom was born in Granite Falls on December 14, 1946 to Peter and Miriam Oie and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1965. He graduated from Moor-head State College, (1970), the Lutheran Brethren Seminary (1973), Luther Northwestern Seminary (1979) and received Doctorate in Ministry degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1993. Tom served as a pastor to churches in Mason City, IA, and Pine Lawn, MO. He was a hospital chaplain at the Ford Foundation Hospital in Detroit, MI, for 12 years, and at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton, WI for 4 years. Tom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the 1990’s, eventually retiring due to his disability. He spent his last 6 years living in Minneapolis where he received treatment at the Struther’s Parkinson’s Clinic. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Miriam Oie, and his brother, Jesse Oie. He is survived by his sister, Miriam (Arnold) Oie Baker, Independence, MO; brother, Daniel (Cheryl) Oie of Plymouth, MN; and brother, Timothy (Susan) Oie, Annandale, MN; 6 nieces and nephews.
