Doris Viola (Cornelius) Morland was born to John and Mary (Amundson) Cornelius on September 15, 1922 in Lisbon township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Lutheran Church and attended District 77 for eight years, graduating from the Clarkfield High School in 1940. On June 18, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Arden Morland by army Chaplin Harry Montgomery. In August of 1943, Doris returned to her employment at the Montevideo Hospital while her husband was overseas. Doris volunteered with the blood mobile and was an active member in her church. She served as the church treasurer.
