Signe M. Maguire, 94, of New London, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Olivia.

Signe M. Maguire, 94,  of New London, died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Olivia.              

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.  Thursday, July 7, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London where visitation was held one hour prior to the service.  

Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.   

 Signe Marguerite Maguire was born on July 19, 1925, in Minnawaukan, North Dakota, the youngest of nine children to Carl and Annie (Gustafson) Diesen.  The family moved to Froid, Montana, where she graduated 1943. She continued her education at Concordia in Moorhead. On June 18, 1949, Signe was united in marriage to John Maguire in Glasgow, MT.  To this union one daughter, Melodie, was born. They made their home in Glasgow for several years before moving to Minneapolis and later Granite Falls in 1960.  While in Granite Falls she worked as an administrative assistant for the schools and the city office. In 1994, Signe and John moved to New London to be closer to their daughter and three grandchildren. In retirement, Signe and John enjoyed traveling and were able to visit each of the 48 contiguous states. She enjoyed taking photos and journaling their travels.   Signe and John were able to share in 58 years of marriage before John’s death on January 29, 2008. Signe was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being part of circle. She loved music and enjoyed singing, and playing the piano and organ.

Signe is survived by her daughter, Melodie (Stuart) Haats of New London; grandchildren, Christin (Wes) Rutgers, Justin (Anna) Haats and Stephanie Haats; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Paycen and Connor Rutgers and Griffin Haats.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and eight siblings.
