Odell Olson was born on August 10, 1928 in Granite Falls to Julius and Hazel Olson. He spent his early childhood in Hanley Falls before moving to Granite Falls.
He graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1946 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Japan and Korea as a telephone lineman and in the Military Police. He returned to Granite Falls after discharge in 1947 and was employed by the city as an electric lineman.
He met Florence Novak in 1948. They were wed two years later and were happily married for 68 years. They had two sons Michael and Steven. While employed by the city he also served on the Volunteer Fire Depart-ment and as Fire Chief for many years.
In 1977 they moved to Anoka where he was employed by the city as an electric lineman. He retired in 1985 and helped Florence manage several apartment buildings and condo units.
After ten years they retired to Realife Co-op in Brooklyn Park. For many years they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Granite Falls also a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and Eastern Star. He was an avid golfer and loved fishing and hunting.
Odell passed on July 1 2018. He is survived by his wife Florence, sons Michael (Suzanne) and Steven (Phyllis), sister Carol (Myron), numerous grand-children and great grand- children and nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held on Friday, July 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka.
