Darlys Raddatz

Darlys Raddatz, age 83, of Shakopee and formerly of Wood Lake, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 19, 2021 at St. Gertrude's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee. Funeral Service held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Arrangements with Wing-Bain Funeral Home.

The irreplaceable Darlys Janet (Schulz) Raddatz was born on February 23rd, 1938 in Granite Falls to Clara (Henke) and Albert Schulz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She attended St. John's and St. John's Day School where her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior continued to be fed and strengthened.

Darlys then attended Wood Lake Public School and went on to take business classes in The Cities. While there, she enjoyed her receptionist work at Prudential Ins. Co. in Minneapolis. At one point, Darlys thought she may like to have a career as a receptionist, but God had other plans in store. She happened to share an apartment in the city with her future husband's sister, Shirley. We could never quite get any details from their dating life out of them, but Alvin (Bud) Raddatz attended a Thanksgiving dinner at the ladies' apartment, saw Darlys Schulz, and the rest was history.

Bud and Darlys were married on April 30th, 1960 at St. John's. They built a fun and wonderful life in Wood Lake on Raddatz Dairy Farm. They raised four beautiful children, three sons and a daughter. She spent her days feeding calves, driving the baler, working alongside Bud on their farm, starting a ceramics business with one of her daughter in-laws, playing cards, and gardening. Flowers were her favorite — purple phlox, mums, peonies, tulips, and … pretty much all the flowers! Darlys also joined the Homemakers Club and St. John's Women's Society in her town.

If you ask her kids, Jeff, Gary, Brad, and Becky — or their spouses/ significant others, Angie, Linda, Robin, and Jeff — she succeeded in making a house feel like a home filled with love, and also delicious meals and baked goods. She made sure everyone was well-fed and then she would top it off with one of her baked treats. She loved baking for her family and friends, especially around the holidays. Christmas was sprinkled with a mountain of cookie cut-outs, cakes, bars, peanut butter balls, and homemade fudge. Monkey bread was one of her favorite recipes to bake; it's guaranteed to be the best you'll taste!

Darlys also enjoyed traveling by car or bus. She made many great memories at the Minnesota State Fair, her sister's cabin on Little Norway Lake, and on trips to Mt. Rainier, Seattle, Branson, Gettysburg, and DC. Three Bears Lodge in Warrens, Wisconsin will remain an extra special place in our hearts.

A loving and devoted Grandma to her eight grandchildren, she also spent her time traveling to many sporting events, drama productions, marching band parades, baptisms, confirmations, graduations, and weddings. Her twelve great grandchildren will miss her laughter and presence at family gatherings to come, but rest assured, each of them will still learn how to play the greatest card game of all time: Pinochle.

Surrounded by many loved ones, Darlys entered her heavenly home in the early morning on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 at St. Gertrude's Circle of Life Center in Shakopee. She was 83 years old. We will carry her memory with us always.

She is survived by her three sons: Jeff (Angie) of Kenosha, WI; Gary (Linda) and Brad (Robin) all of Wood Lake, MN; daughter Becky (special friend Jeff Radermacher) Omtvedt of Prior Lake, MN; eight grandchildren: Leah (Joshua) Krohn of Mount Pleasant, WI; Ben (Katie) Raddatz of Eden, WI; Teela (Cory) Watts of Alexandria, MN; Natasha (Ed) Peterson of Glenwood, MN; Dylan (fiancée Courtney) Omtvedt of Alexandria, MN; Reed (special friend Sadie Stelter) Raddatz of Granite Falls, MN; Britanna (special friend Justin Torke) Raddatz of Wood Lake, MN; Loretta (special friend Caleb Christenson)

Raddatz of Granite Falls, MN; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clara and Albert; her husband Bud; her sister Mavis Macht; her mother and father in-law: Cora and Hugo; her brothers and sisters in-law; her nephew Bruce Raddatz; her grandson Adam Omtvedt, and many dear friends.
