William "Bill" Schmitt

William “Bill” Joseph Schmitt was born on July 17h, 1962 to John and Mary (Hohn) Schmitt in Brookings, S.D. He was baptized in the Catholic faith and confirmed at St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Clarkfield. Bill attended K-12 grades in Clarkfield and graduated with the class of 1980. He furthered his education and attended Pipestone Vocational School and graduated with a degree in Meat Cutting and Sausage Making & Management.

After graduating from Pipestone, Bill worked in Buffalo Lake in a meat processing plant until it closed. He relocated to Norwalk, Wis., where he worked at a meat plant for over 30 years before returning to Clarkfield when his health declined.

During his time in Norwalk, Bill was active in the Lions Club, sang in the Church Choir at St. Augustine’s in Norwalk; he also enjoyed bowling on a league in the fall/winter and loved to golf in the summer until he was no longer able to. Bill enjoyed coming home to spend time with his family, golfing with his brothers, and catching up with old friends. This was not always possible in the winter and depending upon vacation time, he may not have always been able to get home.

Bill loved sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings, even after living in Wisconsin for many years, he was still a die-hard MN fan.

Bill returned to Clarkfield in August of 2019 and resided at Valhalla apartments before entering the Clarkfield Care Center in September of this year. After he returned to Clarkfield he was able to enjoy family time, watching his nephews play baseball and basketball, as well as spending time at the lake with his family. In the early morning of September 27, Bill passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 58.
