Funeral Services for LaVon Preuss of Wood Lake will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township, Wood Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. Luke’s Church Cemetery.
LaVon passed away in Yuma, Ariz. on April 16, 2021 with her loving husband and two other family members by her side. She is greatly loved and will be forever missed.
LaVon E. Preuss was born on September 4, 1938 to George and Lois (Krause) Reynolds. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. LaVon graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1956.
On June 15, 1957 LaVon was united in marriage to Dennis A. Preuss of rural Echo. The couple moved to Washington, D.C. where Dennis was stationed with the Navy. LaVon worked at a large department store there.
The couple moved back to a farm site south of Wood Lake after Dennis’ tour of duty. The couple began farming and worked side by side on the farm and raised two sons. LaVon drove tractor, hauled loads, walked beans etc. LaVon was an active member of the Legion auxiliary, a member of a bowling league for many years and also enjoyed riding snowmobile. Dennis and LaVon loved to camp and eventually settled in a campground at Mill Lake in the Alexandria area. LaVon was known for cooking and provided good meals for all those helping on the farm for many years. She loved to do craft projects and in her later years began making beautiful greeting cards. LaVon and Dennis have been spending winters in Yuma for approximately 40 years. LaVon loved Yuma and enjoyed all the friends she made there and especially making cards with a group of ladies. LaVon also loved spending time with all her grandchildren and she was very proud of them all. She took care of her son Dean and Vicky’s three children many hours while they were farming. LaVon and Dennis have six grandchildren (one deceased), eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.
LaVon is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Dennis; sons – Dean and wife Vicky of Echo, and Scott of Luverne; grandchildren – Brandon (Liza) Preuss of Wood Lake, Teresa Preuss of Sioux Falls, S.D., Alanna (Gary) Lienig and family of Lakeville, Preston (Ashley) Preuss and family of Fairmont, and Clarissa (Josh) Okins and family of Olympia, Wash. LaVon is also survived by her loving sister, Carol Randgaard of Phoenix; sisters- and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
LaVon was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; her grandson, Derek Preuss; four brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; one half-sister; and two half-brothers.
