Ramona “Mona” Virginia Flack was born in Goodrich, N.D., on May 5, 1934, the daughter of David and Helen (Dockter) Steinley. As a child, Mona was always involved in activities including baton and flag lessons, tap dancing, ice skating and drum lessons. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1952. Mona attended Concordia College in Moorhead where she studied business. During her time there, she met the love of her life, Chester Flack. On March 26, 1955, they were married in Alexandria while Chet was on leave from the Army. They briefly moved to Ayer, Mass. and then returned to Moorhead where Chet finished his degree in education at Concordia College. While Chet was in college, Mona worked as a secretary at Northwestern Equipment Incorporated where she was in charge of event-planning and was the president’s personal secretary.

Over the years, Chet and Mona lived in various close-knit communities where Mona loved to entertain and coffee with her friends. In 1966, the family moved to Granite Falls and lived there from 1966-1992. She was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and was very involved in church activities. Mona always said that her greatest joy in her life was being a wife and a mother. She loved the opportunity to be home with her family. When her children grew older, Mona worked at the Fashion Shop, Dalin Drug Store and the floral shop in Granite. She loved her part-time jobs and was extremely outgoing. Mona knew everyone in town and always loved having conversations with anyone she met on the street. She had a way of always making you smile. Her extra time was spent biking, walking, cleaning her house, and spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren always loved to watch funny movies and shows with her, as her laugh was so contagious.

Chet and Mona moved to Willmar in 1992. During retirement they enjoyed numerous cruises and car trips and vacationed in Arizona during the winter months. They spent many weekends attending their grandchildren’s sporting and artistic activities. They were the pride and joy of her life. Mona was an active member of Vinje Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir for 15 years and enjoyed working in the church kitchen. She participated in bible study and was a friendly visitor. She volunteered at Rice Memorial Hospital and other community programs. Mona loved spending time with her family at her lake cottage on West Battle Lake during the summer months. In 2021, Mona moved to Eden Prairie to be closer to family members.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori (and Jim) Velde of Detroit Lakes, Lisa (and John) Diekman of Victoria and son, Greg (and Shari) Flack of Cave Creek, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother and grandparents.
