Kilowatts slide into league playoffs as regular season closes

    The Granite Falls Kilowatts are one step closer to the Cornbelt League playoffs with recent games against Marshall and Milroy under their cleats. On Wednesday, July 22, against Marshall, Christen Kanten started off pitching, racking up 65 strikes against the “A’s”, with five total strikeouts, giving up four runs. Dalton Anderson came in to pitch in the 5th inning with 31 strikes, three strikeouts, handing out an additional two runs giving way to closing pitcher Tommy Lindstrom who served up 19 strikes and gave away 3 runs. With Marshall claiming a 9-1 victory over the Kilowatts, Chris Kanten made sure at least one runner made it in, with a 7th inning score crossing home plate. Other plays with hits were Brandon Grund, Colton Vein, and Cole Ritcher. On Sunday July 26 the Kilowatts played Milroy, a game “fought hard to the end” said coach Richter. With the Kilowatts scoring the first two runs of the game in the first inning, a victory seemed within reach but Milroy battled back hard in the 7th and 8th innings bringing the final score to 5-2 in their favor. Pitching for the KiIlowatts was Ty Schulte for the first 5 innings who dealt out 33 strikes, one strikeout, and gave up three runs. Relieving Shulte was Dalton Anderson who closed out the game handing out 55 strikes, four strikeouts and gave up two additional runs. Kilowatts' runs were scored by Kyle TeBeest, Brandon Grund, and Bennett Knapper with hits made also by Craig Listful, Ayden Friese, Carter Asche, Cole Richter and Tommy Lindstrom.

    In upcoming playoff news the Kilowatts first playoff game will take place in Willmar on Friday July 31st at 7:30pm against the Rails at Bill Taunton Stadium. The playoffs are double elimination with the Kilowatts playing Saturday 8/1 and possibly Sunday 8/2 in Sacred Heart. Times and opponents for Saturday and Sunday’s games will be determined based on Friday night finishes.
