YME Football team achieves Academic All- State Gold Status

YME Football team claims academic all-state gold status.

For the first time in Yellow Medicine East history, the high school football team has been awarded Academic All- State Gold Status. The achievement was gained by the entire team maintaining an average GPA above 3.25. The team actually carried a GPA average of 3.32, the 3rd best GPA in Class A Football across the state.

The players that contributed to the team GPA were: Drew Almich, Landon Anderson, Owen Cherveny, Cody Dahlager, Israel Eakes, Connor Fagen, Andrew Flaten, Luis Guzman, Moises Hidalgo, Nolan Hildahl, Patrick Hoernemann, Javier Jackson, Isaac Jimenez, Jaselen Jimenez, Archie LaRose, Jake Odegard, James Peterson, Jesse Petrich, Tarrick Rupp, Bryce Sneller, Adam Stengel, Nahum Tarin and Owen Torvik.

Patrick Hoernemann was named Individual Academic All-State. The athlete was nominated by his football coach and had to hold a GPA over 3.75. The nomination application dove deep to distinguish the athlete, asking about other school activities Patrick participated in, his future plans, and community participation. Hoernemann was selected by a nomination committee as one of only 14 total Academic All-State Award Winners for Class A Football.

Head Coach Dave Schueler spoke highly of the athlete, "This is a very big accomplishment and something that is well deserved for Patrick as he has always been an extremely hard worker both on the field and in the classroom".
