Ride to Remember comes to Granite Falls

Ride to Remember Riders of 2019.

All good things seem to start and end in Granite Falls and this year's “Ride 2 Remember” is no exception. The event hosted by the Granite Falls Legion takes place on Saturday August 8 and is put on by the Minnesota nonprofit of the same name (Ride 2 Remember). The organization is focused on raising funds for individual veterans and their families as well as servicemen support programs. The ride is also intended to honor and remember fallen soldiers. This year's event donation will go to the Gold Star Family Retreat, a place where Gold Star families can recover, heal and connect in a resort fashion.

The event starts at the Granite Falls Legion Saturday morning, August 8, with registration open at 8:30am to any interested riders, bikes and cars welcome with the $25 registration fee ($15 per passengers). The legion will be serving breakfast during registration as well as eager guests and veteran supporters will have time to peruse and bid on silent auction items. The silent auction is riddled with a mix of exciting donated items including but not limited to classic American signage and signed sports memorabilia. A cornhole tournament will commence at 11:15am and raffle tickets will be available for purchase on site which could lead guests to winning one of many prizes including, $1000 Visa gift card, a Traeger grill, an ipad, (3) $100 J.P. Cycles gift cards, and (4) $50 Amazon gift cards.

The riders will leave Granite Falls at approximately 11:00am, after the 10:15am opening ceremony. On the Ride 2 Remember route are the communities of Granite Falls, Clara City, Raymond, Pennock, Willmar, Atwater, Lake Lillian, Olivia, Redwood Falls, Delhi, Belview, and then returning to Granite Falls for evening festivities around 4:45pm. A pulled pork supper will be served at the G.F. Legion starting at 5:00pm for anyone who wants good food for a good cause.

The Ride 2 Remember hosted by the Legion pairs with the Riverside Jam, a performance geared at making music and play for residents by the Minnesota river. Live music will start at 6:00pm with the band Bad Weather, followed by Tommy Rext at 10:00pm-12:00am. The Legion now hosting their second year for the Ride 2 Remember organization, partnered with the group after they came through three years ago and were warmed by the meal and generosity of the local outpost. To make this event a success, numerous volunteers and donations have been made. The pulled pork dinner planning was a family affair with VCH donating the pork, the Knutson brothers transporting the meat for processing and Airway Lockers(meat processing) out of Sacred Heart processing the pork for free. Legion members are donating time Saturday to act as servers and grounds attendants as well as Fagen Inc. has donated trailers to section off areas on the grounds and as some Fagen staff pitching in for serving as well.
