A 19-year-old Taunton man was shot to death early Saturday morning outside a Belmont Street convenience store, steps away from a fire station and the high school.

Keith Leverone, 19, last known address Birch Street, Taunton, was found dead in the parking lot of 7-11, 662 Belmont St., said Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

Leverone appeared to have been shot once in the head around 3 a.m., Middleton said.

Police began receiving calls of gunshots at 3:09 a.m. at the convenience store, which sits on the corner of West Street, across the street from the Brockton Fire Department headquarters.

Police remained on scene until shortly after 7 a.m., according to reports. No suspects have been arrested or are in custody, Middleton said.

Clerks at the store said they had not been working when the fatal shooting occurred, but said police have been investigating the area all morning.

Police have declined to release any information about the circumstances surrounding the death, the victim or possible suspects. Brockton Police and state police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating. Anyone with any information is asked to call investigators at 508-941-0234.
